Appartamento, Berlino

Refurbishment of an apartment from the early 1900s for a Berlin art collector. The wish was to separate the owner’s sleeping area from the rest of the flat, which was to be left free for the display of works of art and for receiving guests. The sleeping area was carved out of the original service area. Once the space was cleared from partitions the cylindrical shape of the backstairs emerged as if it were an inclusion in the orthogonal organization of the house. In dialogue with the stairs the new bathroom leaves the space fluid. The internal finishing is in limestone and black cocciopesto (paste made of crushed tiles, mortar and pigment hardened and polished). The apartment walls are a chromatic work conceived and realized by artist Milovan Markovic.
