Fienile a Cassinetta di Lugagnano

An old barn in a village on the outskirts of Milan is repurposed as home for two people. The main focus of the project was to realize a single large room flooded with daylight where life in the house can be played out. The perimeter bays of the barn have been closed with large glass windows and doors (5 x 3 m) and to the east a wooden sunblind allows to modulate the light. Indoors a box containing the bathroom with a bed on top is placed like an object that does not alter the original scale of the space. The existing brick honeycomb-shaped west-façade and the wooden sunblind on the east-façade filter light and shade that interact as the day unfolds.
